Sky Harbour Breaks Ground on 16-Acre Private Jet Hangar Campus at Chicago Executive Airport
Sky Harbour Group and Chicago Executive Airport have broken ground on a 16-acre private aviation campus designed around Sky Harbour’s Home Base Operator model. The development is expected to open in early 2028 and will provide dedicated infrastructure for resident business aircraft at one of the Chicago region’s most important general aviation airports.

Unlike a conventional transient-focused FBO model, Sky Harbour develops facilities primarily around aircraft home basing, emphasizing dedicated hangar space and infrastructure for owners and flight departments. The Chicago Executive project extends that strategy into a major Midwest business aviation market with direct access to the wider Chicago metropolitan area.

NVOII is watching the expansion because hangar availability has become an increasingly important component of business aviation infrastructure. As modern large-cabin aircraft become more valuable and physically larger, owners are placing greater importance on secure indoor storage, predictable access and dedicated support rather than simply fuel and transient handling.
