Bikinijet-Operated Cessna Citation Latitude Runs Off Runway and Catches Fire at Misrata Airport in Libya
A Cessna Citation Latitude operated by Turkish private aviation company Bikinijet ran off the runway and caught fire while landing at Misrata International Airport in Libya on September 14. The business jet, registration TC-AKF, had departed Istanbul Atatürk Airport and reportedly experienced the accident during its landing at approximately 10:07 a.m. local time.

Initial reporting indicates the aircraft was traveling to Libya to collect passengers and was carrying crew rather than charter passengers at the time of the accident. Those aboard escaped without reported injuries, and airport emergency services responded after the Citation came to rest beyond the runway and caught fire. Images and video circulating from Misrata show emergency crews attending the damaged aircraft.

NVOII is closely tracking the Bikinijet accident because it represents a significant new operational event involving a modern midsize business jet and an established Turkish private aviation operator. Early reports have not established what caused the runway excursion, and no conclusion should be drawn regarding whether aircraft performance, runway conditions, braking, mechanical issues or another factor contributed until investigators release further information.

The aircraft has been reported as belonging to Turkish businessman Hamdi Akın and operated by Bikinijet, although ownership details should be treated as preliminary pending authoritative confirmation. Bikinijet provides private jet charter, aircraft management, brokerage and aviation consultancy services from Türkiye.
