Cirrus Vision Jet Hits Construction Equipment After Entering Closed Runway at Idaho Airport
A Cirrus Vision Jet was substantially damaged after entering a closed section of runway at Driggs-Reed Memorial Airport in Idaho and encountering construction equipment during an attempted departure, triggering investigations by the FAA and NTSB.

The incident occurred August 14 but received new aviation-industry coverage on August 24. According to information released by the City of Driggs, the Vision Jet entered the construction-closed portion of Runway 04/22 at approximately 6:30 a.m. and began its takeoff roll.

The pilot reportedly attempted to slow after recognizing the construction area but was unable to avoid equipment and materials ahead.

Two people were aboard the aircraft. One occupant was transported to Teton Valley Hospital and subsequently released.

The runway had been temporarily shortened to approximately 3,850 feet, with construction beginning August 5 and the southwest 3,451 feet closed while repairs were underway.

Investigators have not established a probable cause, and the circumstances surrounding the aircraft’s entry into the closed area remain under investigation.

For business and general aviation pilots, the accident underscores the operational importance of current NOTAMs, runway-status information and pre-departure briefings, particularly at airports undergoing construction where familiar runway configurations may have temporarily changed.
