Pentastar Aviation Deploys Autonomous Wingwalking Robots for Business Jet Ground Handling
Pentastar Aviation is introducing autonomous wingwalking robots into day-to-day aircraft ground operations, becoming the first aviation company to deploy the technology as part of routine towing procedures.

Developed by Airtrek Robotics, the robots are designed to move alongside aircraft while they are being repositioned, helping ground crews identify obstacles and reduce the risk of accidental aircraft damage during towing operations.

Traditional wingwalking normally requires personnel to physically walk near aircraft extremities while monitoring clearance around ramps and hangars. The automated system allows technicians to initiate multiple robotic units while maintaining oversight of the aircraft movement.

Pentastar is deploying the technology during summer 2026, with full implementation expected by the fourth quarter.

Ground damage remains a costly operational concern for business aviation operators, FBOs and maintenance organizations, particularly when large-cabin aircraft are moved through congested ramp and hangar environments.

Pentastar’s adoption demonstrates how robotics and automation are beginning to move beyond experimental aviation applications and into everyday business aviation ground operations.
