India Tightens Private Jet Charter Safety Rules as Fatigue Oversight Increases
India’s Directorate General of Civil Aviation is increasing scrutiny of non-scheduled and charter operations, with particular attention on flight-duty limitations, crew fatigue and operator compliance as the country’s private aviation sector continues to expand. The regulator is placing greater emphasis on how existing requirements are applied in day-to-day operations.

The focus is significant for business aviation because charter schedules can be highly variable, with late changes, repositioning sectors and irregular duty patterns creating additional fatigue-management challenges. Existing regulations already require operators to manage flight time, duty periods and prescribed rest.

For Indian charter companies, tighter scrutiny could mean greater attention to rostering, record keeping, crew scheduling and internal fatigue-risk processes. Operators may also need to demonstrate more clearly that commercial pressure or last-minute customer demand does not push crews beyond safe operating limits.

The development comes as India’s private aviation market grows in scale and complexity, increasing demand for aircraft, pilots, maintenance support and charter capacity. As utilisation rises, regulators are signalling that growth must be matched by stronger operational discipline.

For crews and operators alike, fatigue is becoming more than a scheduling issue. It is increasingly a central part of business aviation safety oversight.
