Blackbushe Airport is moving ahead with a major redevelopment programme expected to cost around £20–25 million in its first phase, modernising the historic airfield with new hangars, improved passenger facilities and infrastructure aimed partly at strengthening its role within the London business aviation market. Located roughly six miles from Farnborough Airport, Blackbushe already handles light and midsize business jets, turboprops and executive helicopters.

Construction is under way on approximately 38,000 square feet of new hangarage, with aircraft expected to begin moving into the facilities from January 2027. A further 60,000 square feet of hangar space is planned for late 2027. The wider masterplan includes a new FBO passenger terminal, expanded apron space, maintenance facilities and additional hangars capable of supporting business aircraft and executive helicopters.

Blackbushe is not seeking to become another Farnborough. Its shorter runway and operating limitations mean the airport is targeting a different segment, particularly smaller business jets, turboprops and helicopters that may not require the infrastructure or higher-cost environment associated with larger executive airports. The airport says there is no plan to extend its runway or significantly change the aircraft mix it currently serves.

For London business aviation, the investment is significant. Additional hangarage, maintenance capacity and FBO infrastructure could give operators more choice in an already busy region while creating new opportunities for MRO providers, technicians, aircraft owners and smaller corporate aircraft operators.

Blackbushe may not be competing directly with Farnborough, but its redevelopment could make it an increasingly important part of London’s wider BizAv airport network.
