Preowned Business Jet Sales Rise 21% as Aircraft Inventory Tightens
The preowned business aircraft market is gaining momentum in 2026, but buyers are facing an increasingly difficult problem: finding the right aircraft.

According to the International Aircraft Dealers Association (IADA), accredited dealers closed 746 transactions during the first half of 2026, a 21% increase year over year. Dealers also purchased 118 aircraft into their own inventories, up an extraordinary 87%, signalling confidence that demand will remain strong.

Yet aircraft availability remains historically tight, particularly for newer, well-maintained midsize, super-midsize and large-cabin jets. Longer OEM delivery backlogs are adding further pressure as buyers unwilling to wait years for a factory-new aircraft turn towards the preowned market.

That imbalance is changing negotiations. Aircraft with strong maintenance histories, engine programme coverage, complete records and desirable cabin and avionics configurations are attracting significant interest, with some receiving multiple offers. Price reductions are also becoming less common. IADA dealers reported only 67 reductions during the first half, down 11% from 2025 and the lowest level since the association began tracking the metric in 2023.

For owners considering selling, conditions remain favourable. For buyers, however, waiting for prices to fall could mean losing access to the best aircraft altogether.

The market is no longer simply about finding the lowest price. Aircraft quality, availability and the ability to move quickly are increasingly determining who gets the deal.
