Gulfstream Completes Largest Rooftop Solar Installation in Chatham County
Gulfstream Aerospace has completed the latest phase of its solar energy programme at its Savannah, Georgia, headquarters, creating the largest rooftop solar portfolio in Chatham County. The project marks another significant milestone in the manufacturer’s long-term sustainability strategy and reinforces its commitment to reducing the environmental impact of aircraft manufacturing.

The newest installation features more than 2,700 solar panels on Gulfstream’s Research and Development Campus III building. Combined with four existing rooftop systems, the campus now hosts five solar arrays spanning approximately 620,000 square feet of rooftop space. Together, the installations generate 2.9 megawatts of electricity and are expected to produce more than three million kilowatt-hours of clean energy annually, supplying a significant portion of the facility’s electricity requirements.

Developed in partnership with Cherry Street Energy, the project supports Gulfstream’s broader objective of achieving net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050. Alongside investments in sustainable aviation fuel, advanced aircraft efficiency and environmentally responsible manufacturing, the solar programme forms a key part of the company’s long-term environmental roadmap.

As business aviation manufacturers continue investing in more sustainable operations, Gulfstream’s latest achievement demonstrates how renewable energy can be integrated into large-scale aerospace manufacturing without compromising production capacity. The Savannah installation highlights the industry’s growing focus on reducing emissions while supporting future aircraft development.
