Joby and Virgin Atlantic Finalise UK Electric Air Taxi Partnership
Joby Aviation and Virgin Atlantic have signed a binding multi-year agreement, making Virgin Atlantic Joby’s exclusive airline partner in the United Kingdom as the companies prepare to introduce electric air taxi services. The agreement marks a significant step towards bringing zero-emission, short-haul urban air mobility to the UK, subject to regulatory approval.

The partnership will initially focus on connecting London Heathrow and Manchester Airport with nearby cities and transport hubs. One of the headline routes could see passengers travel from Heathrow to central London in approximately eight minutes, dramatically reducing journey times compared with conventional road transport. Virgin Atlantic will support customer marketing, route development and passenger integration, while Joby will operate the aircraft and oversee the service.

Joby’s all-electric aircraft is designed to carry a pilot and up to four passengers, producing significantly lower noise levels than conventional helicopters while offering fast, sustainable regional travel. Before commercial operations can begin, Joby must secure certification from the UK Civil Aviation Authority (CAA), building on its ongoing certification programme with the US Federal Aviation Administration.

The agreement highlights growing confidence in advanced air mobility and positions the UK as one of Europe’s leading markets for electric air taxi operations. If certification proceeds as planned, the partnership could become a blueprint for integrating next-generation air transport into existing commercial airline networks.
