Sonaca Joins Otto Aerospace’s Phantom 3500 Programme
Belgian aerostructures specialist Sonaca has joined Otto Aerospace’s Phantom 3500 programme under a multi-year agreement to design, manufacture and industrialise the aircraft’s wings, fixed leading edges and empennage. Announced at the Farnborough International Airshow, the partnership marks a significant milestone for Otto as development of its next-generation business jet continues to gain momentum.

The Phantom 3500 is being developed around natural laminar flow technology, an advanced aerodynamic concept designed to dramatically reduce drag and fuel consumption. Sonaca will leverage its expertise in precision aerostructures to manufacture the aircraft’s nearly 20-metre wings, a critical component in achieving the smooth surface finish required for laminar flow performance. Around 50 engineers from Sonaca’s Belgian and Brazilian operations have been assigned to the programme.

Otto Aerospace is targeting first flight in late 2027, with entry into service planned for 2030. The programme has already attracted significant industry attention following Flexjet’s commitment to purchase up to 300 Phantom 3500 aircraft, making it one of the largest business aviation orders announced in recent years.

The partnership strengthens the Phantom 3500 supply chain while demonstrating growing confidence in one of the industry’s most ambitious clean-sheet business jet programmes.
