FAA Plans Advanced Air Mobility Test Range in Oklahoma City
The Federal Aviation Administration is planning to establish a dedicated Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) research range at the Mike Monroney Aeronautical Center, creating a specialised facility for testing the next generation of vertical flight technologies.

The proposed test range will support the evaluation of electric and hybrid vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft, providing a controlled environment to assess aircraft performance, operational procedures and emerging technologies ahead of wider commercial deployment.

The initiative reflects the FAA’s continued investment in preparing the National Airspace System for Advanced Air Mobility, as manufacturers and regulators work together to safely integrate electric aircraft into everyday operations.

For the business aviation industry, developments in AAM could eventually reshape regional travel, airport connectivity and urban transportation, complementing traditional business aircraft with new short-range mobility solutions.
