Why Modern Business Jets Are Moving From Yokes to Sidesticks
The traditional control yoke has long been a defining feature of aircraft cockpits, but an increasing number of modern business jets are adopting sidestick controllers as manufacturers embrace new flight deck technologies.

Sidesticks offer several advantages over conventional yokes. By removing the central control column, manufacturers can create a more spacious cockpit, improve pilot access to avionics and enhance visibility of flight displays. The design also reduces pilot fatigue by allowing a more natural arm position during long flights.

Aircraft such as the Dassault Falcon 10X, Gulfstream G700 and Bombardier Global 8000 incorporate advanced cockpit technologies that move away from the traditional yoke concept. Combined with fly-by-wire flight controls, sidesticks enable sophisticated flight envelope protection and more precise aircraft handling.

While many pilots still appreciate the familiarity of a conventional yoke, the industry’s shift reflects a broader trend towards cleaner cockpit layouts, enhanced ergonomics and greater integration with digital flight systems. As next-generation aircraft continue entering service, the sidestick is increasingly becoming the standard for the future of business aviation.
