Challenger 601 Lands on Highway Adjacent to Nigerian Airport Following Go-Around
A Bombardier Challenger 601-3A operated by VMO Aero made an unexpected landing on a roadway adjacent to Asaba International Airport in Nigeria following a go-around during an RNAV approach.

According to reports, the flight crew landed the aircraft on a 7,000-foot section of highway that was under construction and located alongside the airport’s 11,155-foot runway. The aircraft involved, registered as N989BC, is owned by Best Aircraft Deals and operated by VMO Aero.

No serious injuries have been reported, and the incident is expected to be the subject of a formal investigation by the relevant authorities. Investigators will likely examine factors including airport environment, approach procedures, situational awareness and decision-making during the go-around and landing sequence.

The occurrence serves as a reminder of the challenges crews can face during visual acquisition and runway alignment, particularly when nearby roads, taxiways or construction areas closely resemble runway surfaces.
