Maintenance, Not Pilots, May Be the Bigger Constraint in Business Aviation Growth
While much of the industry focus remains on pilot shortages, maintenance capacity is increasingly emerging as the more critical constraint in business aviation.

A shortage of qualified technicians, combined with growing fleet utilisation, is placing significant pressure on maintenance, repair and overhaul operations. Aircraft are spending longer in maintenance cycles, and operators are facing delays in scheduled inspections and unscheduled repairs.

For corporate flight departments and charter operators, this directly impacts aircraft availability and dispatch reliability. Even with sufficient crew, aircraft cannot operate without timely maintenance support, making technician availability a key operational bottleneck.

The situation is driving increased investment in training, workforce development and expanded MRO infrastructure. As fleets continue to grow, the industry may find that maintenance capacity, rather than pilot supply, becomes the defining factor in sustaining business aviation operations.
