ForeFlight Emergency Glide Mode Enhances Pilot Decision-Making During Engine Failures
ForeFlight is introducing Emergency Glide Mode, a new safety feature designed to assist pilots in managing in-flight engine power loss scenarios with greater clarity and speed.

In the event of an uncommanded loss of engine power, pilots are trained to establish best glide airspeed and identify a suitable landing area. However, selecting the safest option can be challenging, particularly when operating over unfamiliar terrain.

Emergency Glide Mode builds on existing glide range tools by analysing real-time aircraft position, altitude, airspeed and wind conditions to identify the most suitable landing options. The system highlights reachable airports and, when none are available, suggests the best potential off-airport landing sites.

By reducing uncertainty in high-pressure situations, the feature enhances situational awareness and supports faster, more informed decision-making. Tools like this reflect the growing role of advanced avionics and software in improving safety outcomes across business aviation.
